‘AGE EXCLUSIVE’ DEVELOPMENT
Retirement villages that break with conventional stereotypes are poised to change the face of the property market.    Therre is now a growing sector of ‘age-exclusive’ developments which suit the fit and active 55-plus village style community and suddenly they are appearing all over the country.       Audley Clevedon is one of the pioneers of this concept, which is becoming increasingly popular in the UK.      It is not just about sprucing up the old people’s home concept but also building a community with facilities that cater for a generation in a better position than ever before.
Far from being at the mercy of old age, they enjoy it to the full.   They travel the world, have a vast range of interests and hobbies and want to share these with like-minded people.  They want a place to call home but which they can lock up and leave when the next cruise takes their fancy.
These properties developers have great materials to work with, for it is now possible to acquire and develop historic properties and, thanks to our love of the beautiful old buildings, make it work financially
Audley Clevedon, set in 23 acres on the edge of Ilkley Moor in West Yorkshire is one example.  The properties are set around Clevedon House, a fine Victorian building which is now home to the Audley Club.  Facilities include a health and wellbeing centre with gym, swimming pool, beauty treatment rooms and hair salon.
Audley has villages in Kent, North Yorkshire and Devon and is developing new ones in Derbyshire, Berkshire and Kent, Chief Executive Nick Sanderson said: “Many retirees face limited options when downsizing.  Most are fit, active and want to maintain their lifestyle but don’t want to move again when they need more support and so many of them put off the decision.  We want to challenge the stereotype of a traditional old people’s home.  Clevedon is a blue print for all our future sites which we believe will solve the dilemma of an enjoyable retirement for many Britons of pensionable age”.
Clevedon offers a choice of homes frm £249,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.  For more information please email info@cocoonclub.co.uk
LOVE GARDENS BUT FINDING GARDENING A LITTLE HARDER
The English have a deep-rooted lovve of gardens but, according to research carried out by specialist retirement deeloper, Beechcroft, it’s a love affair that begins to ‘wilt’ during the retirement years!  According to Beechcroft, 92% of home buyers said they’d moved to a retirement development because they felt unable to maintain their large house and garden.  Of these, 89% commented tat their garden was the thing they’d miss most when they moved.  Happily, once settled into a new Beechcroft home, the majority find they don’t miss their gardens as much as expected – largely because Beechcroft is committed to creating outstanding gardens that owners can enjoy without the work!
An outstanding example is Douces Manor in West Malling, Kent, an impressive gated development of just 24 homes set in 12 acres of beautiful,  landscaped parkland.  Beechcroft has just completed the restoration and conversion of the Grade ll listed manor house into six new apartments and the cration of a further 18 courtyard homes.  Whilst the new and converted homes are stunning, the parkland has to be seen to be believed!  Within the immediate environs of the house are formal gardens with lawns, planted beds and an Italianate garden.  To the rear of the house are pretty courtyards and beyond is the estate’s private parkland, where owners are able to stroll or walk their dogs in peace.
Beechcroft encourages it’s owners to participate in gardening without having to do the actual physical work.    There is only one three bedroom house and two three bedroom Manor House apartments remaining available, prices start from £695,000
